About

My interest in Arabic letterforms began when I was studying for a Master of Fine Arts in Istanbul. I was introduced to Dead Media Archaeology and was struck by the old manuscripts in Turkish museums. I began to explore other locations where Arabic had been the main writing system before the westernization campaign. In the process, I have discovered that the Arabic alphabet has been through a great deal of evolution since it was first developed. Obviously, there is a growing body of scholarship on so-called “Dead Media,” or media forms that are no longer in use. This scholarship has been spurred in part by the ubiquity of new media technologies, which make obsolete media forms increasingly visible. I have long been fascinated by the Arabic language and its intricate script. I have been exploring ways to integrate the script into my artwork for several years. As a person passionate about both media and craftsmanship, I found myself captivated by Square Kufic calligraphy. Its fusion of these two disciplines intrigued me, and I was driven to delve deeper into its history and techniques, in order to prevent it from becoming another obsolete form of communication. Therefore, I present to you my newly founded platform; squarekufic.org

Squarekufic.org is a website dedicated to promoting the beauty and artistry of Square Kufic calligraphy artform. At Squarekufic.org, you will find a wealth of resources, including the free square kufic font, which was designed and developed by me. This font is available for download on this website, and is an excellent tool for designers, calligraphers, and anyone interested in exploring the intricate beauty of square kufic script. I hope you enjoy exploring the world of Square Kufic Calligraphy Art with me.
